Please save the date for an upcoming webinar co-sponsored between HUD and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) which will focus on how Resident Opportunities and Self-Sufficiency (ROSS) grantees can help the youth we serve successfully connect to financial education resources from FDIC, including its Money Smart Financial Education program. The webinar will also highlight the Denver Housing Authority’s youth financial education activities.
On February 27, HUD announced $36 million in funding awards to public housing authorities and other grantees through the agency’s Resident Opportunities and Self-Sufficiency-Service Coordinators program (ROSS-SC). The awards will allow grantees to hire or retain service coordinators who help connect public housing residents with crucial resources like employment training, financial literacy services, educational opportunities, and health and wellness programs.

In the face of an estimated capital needs backlog of $70 billion, HUD’s budget zeroes out the public housing capital fund, which is used to address the growing physical needs of aging properties.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development announced Tuesday it has awarded nearly $500,000 in grants to the Fort Wayne Housing Authority.
A grant for $343,896 will provide access to affordable housing to 56 people with disabilities, and a grant for $148,174 will fund three service coordinators who assist residents participating in the federal Family Self-Sufficiency Program, which aims to reduce or eliminate the need for rental and welfare assistance.
