One woman’s restless, decadeslong quest to lift up homeless Utahns led to the opening Tuesday of a brand new living center on Salt Lake City’s west side.

Pamela Atkinson, dubbed the state’s version of Mother Teresa for her lifelong work, said that since last April’s groundbreaking for the five-story apartment complex to be known as Pamela’s Place, people she assists daily on the streets have kept her updated on its progress.

Patterson was recently featured on ForbesBooksRadio's affordable housing podcast ChangeMakers with Katie Goar. Mr. Patterson discussed CMHA's work not only to increase housing opportunities for low-income Cuyahoga families, but also to leverage the housing authority's resources and local partnerships to improve education outcomes for school-aged public housing residents. One way CMHA is advancing this goal is through expanding  high-speed internet access at CMHA communities.

A groundbreaking was held for an affordable housing facility earmarked for residents 62 and over.  

Rev. James F. Checchio, Bishop of Metuchen, and Cardinal Joseph W. Tobin, Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Newark, were joined Feb. 25 by civic and community leaders at the groundbreaking for St. Paul the Apostle Senior Residence, according to a release.

In a new YouTube video, Fannie Mae highlights the Housing Authority of the City of Austin’s (HACA) comprehensive rehabilitation of its Gaston Place community, a 100 unit property for low-income seniors and disabled individuals. HACA partnered with Fannie Mae and Bellwether Enterprise to employ the Rental Assistance Demonstration (RAD) program as a tool to help finance Gaston Place’s repair backlog of nearly $8 million.

Fairfax County Board of Supervisors has approved over 100 units of affordable senior housing.

The board approved the construction of 150 units of senior housing in the high cost areas of Alexandria and Fairfax.

The Fairfax County Redevelopment and Housing Authority has partnered with Arlington Partnership for Affordable Housing to get the ball rolling of the development of the Oakwood Residences.

New JCHS Report Finds More Accessible Units Within Assisted Housing Stock

A recent report from the Harvard Joint Center for Housing Studies found that housing units receiving HUD subsidies were more accessible for older people and those with mobility difficulties compared to unsubsidized units occupied by low-income renters. A significant proportion of households served through HUD-assisted housing are older adults for whom accessibility is essential for successful independent living.
