Seniors seeking affordable housing near art, barbecue and the Health District can soon look to Miami’s up-and-coming Allapattah neighborhood.
The coronavirus pandemic and its associated effects have greatly impacted the U.S. Virgin Islands’ lowest income residents, especially its seniors. To lift their spirits and help them stay sanitized and protected against COVID-19, the Virgin Islands Housing Authority distributed care packages funded by CARES Act coronavirus relief funds to the 65 senior residents of its Lucinda Millin Home on St. Thomas. The packages included cases of water, face masks, Clorox, puzzles, games, and the star attraction -- Red Cross emergency radios.

The 134-unit, seven-story new construction will provide mixed-income housing and first-class amenities for independent seniors 62 years of age and older on the City’s far South Side.

A groundbreaking was held for an affordable housing facility earmarked for residents 62 and over.
Rev. James F. Checchio, Bishop of Metuchen, and Cardinal Joseph W. Tobin, Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Newark, were joined Feb. 25 by civic and community leaders at the groundbreaking for St. Paul the Apostle Senior Residence, according to a release.
