A new president and CEO has been announced for the Housing Authority of Asheville. Monique Pierre began in April, a planned transition to precede former CEO David Nash's retirement June 30.
Pierre officially took on the mantle in May. She is the first woman, and first African American woman, to head the authority since it was established in 1940, Nash said.

Jon Duncan was appointed the temporary executive director of the Housing Authority of Cook County on Wednesday.
Duncan currently serves as general counsel for the housing authority and will continue to perform those duties. He has been at the agency since 2011.
CLPHA congratulates Richard Monocchio on his appointment on his appointment as Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Office of Public and Indian Housing at HUD. Richard goes to HUD from his previous role as executive director of the Housing Authority of Cook County, a CLPHA member.
CLPHA looks forward to working with him in his new role to expand housing opportunities, improve life outcomes for low-income families, and help PHAs serve their communities effectively, efficiently, and creatively.
