Recent research by Chapin Hall at the University of Chicago shows that 1.1 million children have a young parent who experienced homelessness in the past year. Given that nearly half of all homeless women between the ages of 18-25 were pregnant or parenting over the same period, robust two-generation approaches and practices are needed to support homeless and housing-insecure families moving forward.
The national non-profit SchoolHouse Connection is soliciting input on best practices for disrupting generational homelessness among this population. SchoolHouse Connection seeks to build on existing research and practice in the areas of early childhood, pre-K-12, higher education, state policy, housing, and unaccompanied youth to develop an action plan promote two-generation practices among providers and policymakers.
