In Minneapolis, a bold plan to help homeless schoolchildren takes shape (Minneapolis Public Housing Authority)

Minneapolis is launching its most aggressive effort yet to help homeless students succeed in school at a time when homelessness in Minnesota is at a record high.
The new Stable Homes, Stable Schools pilot program, believed to be the first of its kind in the nation, will provide rental assistance and intensive social services to the families of about 650 students in Minneapolis Public Schools over the next three years. Officials plan to house the first group of families next month.

Three DCHA Communities Receive Little Free Libraries
Three District of Columbia Housing Authority (DCHA) communities now have Little Free Libraries, small wooden boxes containing books for neighbors to borrow as well as space to donate books to their community. Amerigroup built the DCHA Little Free Libraries and filled them with books, and nonprofit A Wider Circle will maintain them.

Join CLPHA’s Education Working Group on Tuesday, February 12, 2:00-3:00pm ET to learn more about school attendance initiatives taking place at PHAs across the country. Representatives from the King County Housing Authority and the national nonprofit Attendance Works will present on tools for addressing chronic absenteeism, as well as strategies for fostering a culture of attendance among residents.
