 Providing a safe, affordable place for Columbus senior citizens to call home. The Columbus Metropolitan Housing Authority came together Tuesday with state and county leaders to celebrate the opening of McKinley Manor in Franklinton.

The $14 million project is a 44-unit affordable housing community that will serve low- and fixed-income renters over the age of 55.

This month, HUD's Choice Neighborhoods Initiative (CNI) newsletter focused their spotlight on the Housing Authority of Kansas City's Sam Rodgers Place and discussed how HAKC and Kansas City successfully developed and implemented a comprehensive Choice Neighborhoods housing plan that responded to resident needs and culminated in a healthy living community that combined health and wellness with mixed-income housing.

SAGE is one of the country’s largest and oldest organizations dedicated to improving the lives of LGBTQ+ elders. SAGE works to achieve a high quality of life for LGBTQ+ elders, supports and advocates for their rights, fosters a greater understanding of aging in all communities, and promotes positive images of LGBTQ+ life in later years. One of the most significant concerns for LGBTQ+ elders that SAGE works to address is access to safe, affordable housing. Housing concerns impact many older adults, but for LGBTQ+ elders there are added challenges that have built up over a lifetime.
