A big mixed-use development on the eastern side of downtown San Jose is headed for a possible makeover because the government agency slated to occupy the site might wind up at another location in the city.

The Santa Clara County Housing Authority has been working toward a dramatic redevelopment of a vacant lot on E. Santa Clara Street where the agency would be the anchor office tenant — but now it’s possible the government entity will establish its main offices elsewhere.

A former motel that once had been seen as a blight in the neighborhood will be a new permanent home for 82 homeless San Diegans, including Lister Lane.

“This is like a dream,” said Lane, 61, in his first visit to Benson’s Place in the Otay Mesa/Nestor neighbor in South Bay on Wednesday. “It felt like home.”

Virgin Islands Housing Authority Brings COVID-19 Care Packages and Smiles to Senior Residents

The coronavirus pandemic and its associated effects have greatly impacted the U.S. Virgin Islands’ lowest income residents, especially its seniors. To lift their spirits and help them stay sanitized and protected against COVID-19, the Virgin Islands Housing Authority distributed care packages funded by CARES Act coronavirus relief funds to the 65 senior residents of its Lucinda Millin Home on St. Thomas. The packages included cases of water, face masks, Clorox, puzzles, games, and the star attraction -- Red Cross emergency radios.
