Redevelopment of Cottage Gardens Affordable Housing Hits Milestone (Municipal Housing Authority for the City of Yonkers)

One of the largest affordable housing redevelopment projects in the region reached another milestone with the closing on financing for 178 Warburton at The Ridgeway, a new $56 million mixed-income residential complex of 81 apartment homes in Southwest Yonkers that is being developed by the Municipal Housing Authority for the City of Yonkers (MHACY) and The Community Builders (TCB).

David Nisivoccia Appointed Executive Director of Denver Housing Authority

Congratulations to David Nisivoccia for being appointed executive director of the Denver Housing Authority, which is a member of CLPHA. Since 2013, David has been president and CEO of the San Antonio Housing Authority, which also a member of CLPHA. Nisivoccia replaces Ismael Guerrero, a former CLPHA board member, who left DHA after 10 years to join Mercy Housing, a Denver-based national affordable housing nonprofit as its new executive director.

CLPHA looks forward to continuing to work with Mr. Nisivoccia in his new role.

Since 1929, Pancratia Hall has stood on the Loretto Heights campus, which acted as a southwest Denver educational facility for more than a century. Now, after the hall has been vacant for years, developers have launched a project to convert the building’s dorm rooms, chapel, attics and even its gymnasium into affordable apartments that are both one-of-a-kind and state-of-the-art.

Mayor announces free internet for 9,000 people in L.A. public housing (Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles)

Mayor Eric Garcetti announced a new initiative Friday designed to deliver six months of free internet access to residents in four public housing communities across Los Angeles, making low-cost, high-quality broadband options available to 9,000 people in nearly 3,600 housing units.

The initiative stems from a partnership between the Mayor’s Office of Budget and Innovation, the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles, Starry Internet and Microsoft Corp., a city statement reported.

Coordinated Street Outreach Program Will Help Homeless San Diegans (San Diego Housing Commission)

The city of San Diego is planning to build on a successful pilot program for homeless San Diegans.

Oftentimes San Diego’s homeless outreach efforts have been left to police officers, which can be dangerous for some unsheltered residents.

The Coordinated Street Outreach Program offers a different approach, using case managers to connect people with permanent housing and social services.

Gov. Gavin Newsom announced Thursday the Fresno Housing Authority, in partnership with the city of Fresno, will receive nearly $16.5 million to purchase and rehabilitate three more motels to house people experiencing homelessness.

CCF to distribute $457K to Cambridge nonprofits (Cambridge Housing Authority)

The Cambridge Community Foundation is distributing almost a half million dollars in grants to nonprofits throughout Cambridge a month ahead of schedule as organizations deal with the increased need and financial impacts brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.

CCF announced it is releasing the grants early -- including $367,000 to 59 organizations focused on hunger, homelessness and other housing challenges -- and is giving the organizations flexibility in how they spend the money.
