Late last year, Tacoma Mayor Victoria Woodards announced her plans to launch a universal basic income pilot program. Now, those plans are beginning to take shape, with the city and its local partners revealing the first details on how the program will work.
Working with United Way of Pierce County, Greater Tacoma Community Foundation, the Urban League, Sound Outreach, and the Tacoma Housing Authority, the city’s pilot will be called “Growing Resilience in Tacoma,” or GRIT.

The WHA distributed more than 200 basic needs baskets to senior residents with the help of the Wilmington Fire Department last Wednesday.

Ahead of Earth Day on April 22, the San Antonio Housing Authority (SAHA) celebrates the use of solar energy at public housing properties, a green initiative uncommon in the affordable housing industry, with the new installation of solar panels at Blanco Apartments on April 21.
The new solar panels will offset 20 percent of the building costs and will be combined with efforts to upgrade lighting and upgrade systems to energy efficiency.
