On December 4, 2019, the New York Housing Conference (NYHC) awarded Joseph Shuldiner, executive director of the Municipal Housing Authority for the City of Yonkers (MHACY), with their 2019 Clara Fox Award for Outstanding Achievement.
On December 31, 2019 HUD announced more than $79 million in Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) grants to nearly 700 public housing authorities nationwide. FSS grants help public housing authorities hire service coordinators who connect public housing residents with local programs and services with the goal of increasing residents’ earnings and decreasing their dependencies on public assistance.

On Wednesday, Tacoma Housing Authority and Cascade Park Communities announced a partnership to help make available 145 affordable assisted-living units.

Calabazas Community Apartments – a 5-story, 145-unit building at 2904 Corvin Dr. – will reserve 80 of its studio apartments for homeless individuals, offering on-site support services like job assistance and case management.

The Fifth Third Bank Foundation announced grant winners for its Strengthening Our Communities Fund. The bank handed out $200,000 in grant money Friday at the Mint Museum. The money went to local non profits that focus on affordable housing, financial stability, and small business development. Fifth Third Bank officials say they want to build on its communities fund. Officials say at the end of 2019, $10.5 million will have been invested across Fifth Third’s footprint through the Strengthening Our Communities Fund.
