"After 14 months of construction, a 70-unit apartment community is about to welcome military veterans, including those transitioning from homelessness, in Tinton Falls, New Jersey. The development is one of the first private veterans’ communities in the U.S. to offer rental housing to former service members at a range of incomes along with comprehensive services, including a program to help move veterans toward homeownership, announced WinnCompanies.

Flags fly at half-mast each Nov. 11 to honor Veterans Day across the country. In Silicon Valley, fewer veterans will look at those flags while living on the streets.

All the Way Home, a campaign launched in 2015 to help end the homeless veterans crisis, has housed 2,201 veterans during the past seven years. The program is deemed a success in Santa Clara County, according to Destination: Home, a nonprofit that helps house the homeless.

The 246th birthday of the U.S. Marine Corps was the perfect day to honor Chuck Austin and the veterans housing facility that bears his name in Yakima.

More than 100 veterans, elected officials and representatives of companies that built the Chuck Austin Place Veteran Housing and Services Center gathered on a cool and sunny Wednesday morning to remember the Yakima Marine Corps veteran and celebrate the facility’s opening.

From the beginning, this country showed concern for the housing of its veterans: the first national veterans' home in the United States was the United States Naval Home, approved in 1811, but not opened until 1834 in the Philadelphia Naval Yard. Things picked up after the Civil War, and by 1933, there were 17 federally-managed veterans’ homes. 43 states managed 55 functioning state veterans’ homes before 1933; 14 of those states also had a federal veterans’ home open at the same time.

National Church Residences, in partnership with Lucas Housing Services Corporation-a Lucas Metropolitan Housing (LMH) Non-Profit Affiliate-has been awarded $5,898,509 from HUD's Section 202 Supportive Housing Grant for the Elderly for Collingwood Green Phase V. The Section 202 Supportive Housing for the Elderly Program provides rental assistance and capital advances to private, nonprofit sponsors to finance the development of housing for very low-income elderly residents.
