Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles (HACLA) Celebrates Grand Opening of A Bridge Home Imperial

On Wednesday, November 13, HACLA joined with Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, City Councilman Joe Buscaino, and community partners in the fight against homelessness for the opening of A Bridge Home Imperial. This shelter will provide interim housing and supportive services for 100 women and men from the Los Angeles neighborhood of Watts who were previously homeless before connecting with the facility, giving them a place to receive the support they need to get on the path toward permanent housing.

Tacoma Developments Receive LIHTC Financing (Tacoma Housing Authority)

The development of two affordable apartment communities in Tacoma, Wash., took a big step forward after securing critical financing.

Boston Capital announced it is investing $26.3 million in low-income housing tax credit (LIHTC) equity in the construction of 1800 Hillside Terrace, recently renamed The Rise at 19th, a 64-unit development serving families experiencing homelessness, and Arlington Drive Youth Place, a 58-unit development for primarily homeless youth.

Milwaukee’s Historic Soldiers Home to Get New Life (Housing Authority of the City of Milwaukee)

Six buildings at the Milwaukee Soldiers Home, a national historic landmark district, are being rehabilitated into housing for veterans and their families who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.

Located on the grounds of the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center, the project is being led by The Alexander Co. and the Housing Authority of the City of Milwaukee (HACM).

Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority & Partners Working to Find Homes for Homeless Vets This Holiday Season

A new joint initiative is helping Cleveland veterans find housing in time for the holidays. Through the Home for the Holidays initiative, the Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority (CMHA), HUD, and the Cleveland VA are coordinating their outreach and resources to quickly find housing for veterans experiencing homelessness before the holiday season.

City of San Diego moves ahead with plans for fourth bridge shelter (San Diego Housing Commission)

The San Diego Housing Commission has recommended the Alpha Project to run the city’s fourth bridge shelter for homeless people.

The shelters offer a safe place for adult single men and women experiencing homelessness to receive bridge housing, emergency shelter, and appropriate services needed while preparing for permanent housing placements using the Housing First model.

Summit County’s first facility for homeless female veterans opens (Akron Metropolitan Housing Authority)

Tanzania Johnson joined the U.S. Air Force to get out of Akron and start a new beginning.

She enlisted right after graduating from Akron’s Firestone High School in 2010 and became a military police officer. She was stationed at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland until she was honorably discharged in 2014.

While in the service, she gave birth to her daughter, Nakiyah, and they returned to Akron.
