HUD Awards More Funding And New Designation To CMHA (Columbus Metropolitan Housing Authority)

U.S. Housing and Urban Development officials were in Columbus Wednesday for a trio of announcements regarding the Columbus Metropolitan Housing Authority. 

HUD Midwest Regional Administrator Joseph Galvan announced that CMHA has been awarded nearly $156,000 to  help families attain self-sufficiency.

Father Joe’s converting E-Z 8 Motel into housing for homeless (San Diego Housing Commission)

What was once described by guests as a roach-infested “crack motel” in South Bay will be renovated into the 82-room Benson Place for formerly homeless people, officials from Father Joe’s Villages and the city of San Diego announced Tuesday.

The $24.7 million project at 1010 Outer Road is expected to open by the end of the year and will provide tenants with support services from Father Joe’s Villages and the San Diego County Department of Behavioral Health Services.

$3.7 million awarded to Housing Commission to house military veterans (San Diego Housing Commission)

Sen. Dianne Feinstein announced today that the San Diego Housing Commission will receive nearly $4 million in federal funding to help homeless military veterans find housing.

The Housing Commission will receive a nearly $3.8 million grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing program.

State receives $2.3 million to help house veterans: Vancouver Housing Authority to get $386K

U.S. Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., announced $2.3 million in statewide funding to house veterans through the HUD-VA Supportive Housing Program, better known as VASH, on Tuesday.

The program combines rental assistance from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development with the Department of Veterans Affairs’ case management and clinical services. Vancouver Housing Authority was awarded $385,740 for the program, which started in 2008.

Federal funding to help homeless veterans find affordable and stable housing in our area is included in the congressional bipartisan budget deal.

The dollars will fund a partnership program between the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

On Tuesday, December 10, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) introduced the Affordable Housing for Educational Achievement Demonstration (AHEAD) Act, legislation intended to encourage public housing authorities and school districts to work together to address child and family homelessness through a federal grant program.
