U.S. Housing and Urban Development officials were in Columbus Wednesday for a trio of announcements regarding the Columbus Metropolitan Housing Authority.
HUD Midwest Regional Administrator Joseph Galvan announced that CMHA has been awarded nearly $156,000 to help families attain self-sufficiency.

What was once described by guests as a roach-infested “crack motel” in South Bay will be renovated into the 82-room Benson Place for formerly homeless people, officials from Father Joe’s Villages and the city of San Diego announced Tuesday.
The $24.7 million project at 1010 Outer Road is expected to open by the end of the year and will provide tenants with support services from Father Joe’s Villages and the San Diego County Department of Behavioral Health Services.

U.S. Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., announced $2.3 million in statewide funding to house veterans through the HUD-VA Supportive Housing Program, better known as VASH, on Tuesday.
The program combines rental assistance from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development with the Department of Veterans Affairs’ case management and clinical services. Vancouver Housing Authority was awarded $385,740 for the program, which started in 2008.
