Seven CLPHA Members Awarded HCV Mobility Demonstration Grants

CLPHA congratulates our members who were awarded HUD's Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Mobility Demonstration grants!

CLPHA members awardees include: Chester Housing Authority, Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority, Housing Authority of Pittsburgh, Minneapolis Public Housing Authority, New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development, and joint awardees the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles and the Los Angeles County Development Authority.

Solar Panels to Go Live at Public Housing Property Ahead of Earth Day (San Antonio Housing Authority)

Ahead of Earth Day on April 22, the San Antonio Housing Authority (SAHA) celebrates the use of solar energy at public housing properties, a green initiative uncommon in the affordable housing industry, with the new installation of solar panels at Blanco Apartments on April 21.

The new solar panels will offset 20 percent of the building costs and will be combined with efforts to upgrade lighting and upgrade systems to energy efficiency.

Lucas Metropolitan Housing to Support Choice Neighborhoods Project with a Dedicated Website

Lucas Metropolitan Housing (LMH), and the City of Toledo, were awarded a $450,000 Choice Neighborhoods Initiative Grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to help revitalize and transform McClinton Nunn Homes and the Junction Neighborhood. This planning grant will enable LMH and the City to develop a community-driven plan for McClinton Nunn Homes and an expanded area around the public housing complex.

The Ruth L. Bennett Homes, with 261 family units, is the largest federally subsidized public housing development in Chester. The homes, which require tenants to make less than a certain amount to reside there, already serve a vulnerable population. When the pandemic struck, they faced further financial hardships, and keeping food on the table became a challenge.

HACP and 412 Food Rescue to Launch New Food Delivery Service

They didn’t know it at the time, but their partnership would end up connecting thousands of low-income families with regular access to fresh, healthy food while creating a national model for food rescue and delivery services.

Baltimore Housing Authority expands Housing Choice Voucher program to help more homeless residents

The Housing Authority of Baltimore City announced that it has allocated an additional 50 Housing Choice vouchers to help homeless residents obtain housing.

In a Tuesday news release, the agency wrote that it now offers 900 vouchers annually through the city’s Coordinated Access process, which is designed to assess people’s needs and connect them with appropriate aid for housing and homeless services.

DCHA Announces $250,000 Investment in New Human Capital Plan

District of Columbia Housing Authority Executive Director Tyrone Garrett announced that four resident entrepreneurs received $2,500 micro-grants to support their businesses at the April 14 monthly Board of Commissioners meeting as the first action in the rollout of the agency’s $250,000 investment into its new Human Capital Plan.
