A new $70 million investment to turn a 452-unit Southeast Austin apartment complex into affordable housing is the latest effort by Austin's housing authority to expand its real estate footprint, those associated with the deal say.

The Community Development Trust, a national group that provides capital for affordable housing projects, announced that it is helping the Austin Housing Authority buy the Asher Apartments complex, southeast of Interstate 35 and Slaughter Lane.

Tacoma’s WorkForce Central and community partners are set to deliver on improving some local household budgets in the next few years through a $1.75 million grant.

The Economic Security for All grant draws funding from the governor’s Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act statewide fund.

The project is designed to help a significant number of residents in a particular ZIP code climb out of poverty in a span of just under three years.

Upgrades Ahead for 16 Manhattan Public Housing Properties (New York City Housing Authority)

Sixteen Manhattan public housing properties will be the latest developments to get much-needed repairs as part of the New York City Housing Authority’s Permanent Affordability Commitment Together (PACT) program. The improvements, that will impact more than 2,900 residents, will include new bathrooms, kitchens and flooring in apartments as well as replacements of heating systems and full elevator rehabs.

More than a dozen families who have recently experienced homelessness now have a new place to call home.

Tuesday, the Minneapolis Public Housing Authority celebrated the grand opening of Minnehaha Townhomes. The 16 units are the first public housing the city has built since 2010.

City leaders say the two and three-bedroom options are located close to the light rail and Minnehaha Park and are available for families who were previously in homeless shelters.

Yaleija Jackson recently had a bad experience with a dentist. When he pulled her tooth, it hurt. A lot.

That has only increased her career aspiration to be a dentist, and a good one. The quest begins with her entering Howard University in the fall majoring in health sciences.

Yaleija shared her story Tuesday afternoon at the Housing Authority of New Haven’s (HANH) 360 Orange St. headquarters.

NCHM Donates $100,000 to Save the Soldiers Home Project (Housing Authority of the City of Milwaukee)

The National Center for Housing Management (NCHM), a national non-profit organization, has announced a $100,000 grant in support of the Save the Soldiers Home project on the grounds of the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center overlooking Miller Park. When completed, the project will restore six historic buildings, some dating back to the 1860s, and create 101 supportive housing units for veterans and their families who are either homeless or at risk of being homeless.

Upgrades are coming to the region’s largest affordable housing provider. Cincinnati Metropolitan Housing Authority or CMHA says it’s starting to address more than $190 million in much-needed improvements.
