CLPHA has bittersweet news to share – Steve Lucas, our health research and policy manager, has accepted a presidential appointment to the Biden-Harris Administration to serve as the Special Assistant to HUD’s Assistant Secretary of Public & Indian Housing. Steve’s last day at CLPHA will be Friday, January 29.

During his four years at CLPHA, Steve launched CLPHA’s health-related activities of our Housing Is Initiative, using his robust experience in health policy to advance CLPHA’s work to better align the housing and health sectors. In particular, Steve’s most significant achievements include his leadership in forging a strong partnership between CLPHA and UnitedHealthcare Community & State to improve the health outcomes of PHA residents and Medicaid enrollees through the multi-site Community Catalyst project (formerly Aligning Health & Housing Systems), which UHC recently committed more than $3 million to expand. He has also helped grow CLPHA’s annual Housing Is Summit into the preeminent event dedicated to collaboration among the housing, education, and health sectors.

Congratulations to Steve on this appointment. We look forward to working with him in his new role.
