HACLA Celebrates Groundbreaking of Umeya Apartments

On the morning of April 18, 2023, HACLA CEO & President, Doug Guthrie, joined Deputy Mayor Jenna Hornstock, Secretary Lourdes Castro Ramirez, Gustavo Velasquez, Ann Sewill, Erich Nakano and other community leaders to celebrate the groundbreaking of Umeya Apartments in Little Tokyo. Located at 425 S. Towne Ave in Los Angeles, Little Tokyo Service Center (LTSC) will redevelop Umeya Rice Cake Company factory and convert the former warehouse into 175 deeply affordable and permanent supportive housing units. Of the 175 units, 87 units will be Project Based Voucher units. Slated to be completed in 2025, the building will also come with community, commercial and service provider space for wraparound services.
