From CBS Austin:
A new health care option coming to an area of Austin that's been lacking those kinds of services for decades. A new community health center will be opening later this year at the Chalmers Courts in East Austin.
Chalmers Courts had its beginnings in 1939. It was one of the first public housing projects in the entire country.
Now Chalmers is a work in progress. When it's done what started as 156 units will be 400, and Monday’s groundbreaking will remodel a pair of the original buildings into an onsite health center. The new clinic will be a partnership among the Housing Authority of the City of Austin (HACA,) CommUnityCare, and Central Health.
Sylvia Blanco is the chief operating officer for HACA. She explains, “We really do this as a team to help improve quality of life for all of our families."
