HUD Publishes New Guidance on Carbon Monoxide Detectors

Date Published:
April 18th, 2019

In a notice issued today, HUD announced new guidance on carbon monoxide detectors for HUD-assisted housing. The notice reminds owners of HUD-assisted properties to maintain functioning carbon monoxide detectors when required by local regulations and encourages owners operating in areas without any such regulation to consider providing detectors.

HUD stated that they will be issuing a future notice on rulemaking for the Public Housing, Housing Choice Voucher, and Multifamily programs to require carbon monoxide detectors. HUD’s press release outlining the notice’s key issues can be found here.
