Just hours before the end of the legislative session in Olympia, the state's capital budget passed, that includes funding for several projects here in the Yakima Valley.
One of the projects is working to house homeless veterans.
Local representatives secured $2.5 million to convert an old U.S. Marine Corps Armory in Yakima into permanent housing for homeless veterans and their families.

San Diego County will receive millions of dollars to move more families into Section 8 low-income housing, the City of San Diego said Monday.
The San Diego Housing Commission is expected to receive approximately $20 million in federal funding that will go towards increasing rental assistance in the county. According to the agency, SDHC provides federal rental assistance to more than 15,000 households in the region.

A historic hotel in downtown Sacramento now has the green light to become a homeless shelter.
Following a special meeting Tuesday afternoon that lasted three hours, Sacramento City Council members voted unanimously to approve a plan involving the Capitol Park Hotel, which sits at the corner of 9th and L streets.

The City of Rockville breaks ground on building a multi-million dollar, mixed-use development in their downtown area.
What used to be just a parking lot will soon be a new place of attraction for Downtown Rockville. City of Rockville Mayor Bridget Newton said, “I think this project is going to be super. The partnership with HOC; 150 units of affordable housing for seniors.”

It's a new vision for a part of Kansas City that some felt was forgotten.
That vision is bringing new housing and development to the historic northeast along The Paseo. The plan is to take $30 million and turn into into a dream area for the entire community.
Back in September 2015, the Department of Housing and Urban Development awarded a grant to transform the Paseo Gateway near Independence Avenue, and The Paseo.

Walsh together with the Boston Housing Authority and local shelter providers yesterday gathered in Roxbury to announce the release of 1,000 new rental housing vouchers for chronically homeless residents and families in Boston. The vouchers are funded through the federal Housing Choice Voucher Program through the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, and will increase the BHA’s portfolio of vouchers to 13,500.
A recent report from New York University’s Furman Center describes the New York City Housing Authority’s (NYCHA) housing portfolio’s important role in the city’s efforts to maintain economic and racial diversity and preserve affordable housing in gentrifying neighborhoods.
