Affordable housing is increasingly viewed as fundamental to the economic and public health of the nation, highlighted by the impact of the pandemic and the chronic housing instability facing low income and special needs households. For the first time in a generation, the Building Back Better legislation (even at reduced funding levels) will infuse significant resources in the nation's social safety net. We are moving from scarcity mode to substantial new investments. How should we prepare for these new resources and opportunities? How should we rethink our current housing assistance systems? What roles can PHAs play in shaping this new era?

3:00 P.M. PANEL: HEALTH AND HOUSING PARTNERSHIPS: WHERE WE ARE HEADED WITH LESSONS LEARNED FROM THE PANDEMIC

The importance of cross-sector partnerships was brought to the forefront as we all worked to address the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. As we move into a “new normal,” these partnerships are growing and addressing a range of community needs—continuing to fight the pandemic as well as focusing on the social determinants of health. This panel will showcase a variety of ways that health organizations and public housing authorities have leveraged health and housing partnerships to better support the communities they serve.
