CLPHA was pleased to host an engaging and well-attended Fall Membership Meeting in Washington, D.C., October 24-25. Featured speakers from Capitol Hill and the media who underscored the value of shelter as a primal need for all Americans and the importance of housing that is safe, decent, and affordable affirmed our work as public housing leaders, and crystalized our essential role in support of low income families.
We were also gratified to feature PHA innovations and executives’ expertise during panel sessions that focused on the strategic tools of portfolio repositioning – from the financial mechanisms that make the deals happen to the stakeholder engagement that make repositioning workable for PHA communities.
Attendees enjoyed the opportunity to hear from, and interact with, PIH Assistant Secretary Hunter Kurtz and FHFA Director Mark Calabria. Both agency leaders delivered remarks about their programmatic goals and discussed how PHAs can be involved in providing feedback. As examples, Kurtz welcomed input on his efforts to reduce paperwork and reporting requirements, and Calabria recognized the usefulness of PHA input on the GSE’s Duty to Serve requirements.
In conjunction with the Fall Membership Meeting, CLPHA hosted the second annual convening of CIOs, which welcomed 30 attendees from 26 housing authorities. Sessions focused on cybersecurity, video security, and data storage innovations along with small group discussions on information technology topics.
