PHAs Encouraged to Reach Out to State Medicaid Agencies to Explore Application Options

HUD and the Department of Housing & Human Services (HHS) just announced launch of the Housing and Services Partnership Accelerator, which will support states in developing or expanding innovative housing-related supports and services for Medicaid-eligible people with disabilities and older adults who are experiencing, or at risk of, homelessness. Four state partnership teams will be awarded to be a part of the Accelerator, a 12-month learning collaborative focused on common issues, such as navigating payment models and rates and data integration and sharing.

To be eligible for the program, states must have a CMS-approved Section 1115 demonstration project or Section 1915(i) state plan home and community-based services benefit covering housing-related supports for people experiencing, or at risk of, homelessness. You can use this resource as a starting place to check if your state is eligible (green or purple states that have 1115 or 1915(i) noted in their details). While PHAs cannot be lead applicants for this program, we encourage you to reach out to your state Medicaid agency and other potential partners if your state is eligible to explore options for your state’s application.
