The District of Columbia Housing Authority, local and federal officials, and the Kenilworth Courts community broke ground today on Kenilworth 166. The $83 million project is the first phase of the Kenilworth Courts redevelopment, which kicked off with a U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) CHOICE planning grant 10 years ago.

The campaign over the state’s need for affordable housing and the power of mostly white suburban enclaves in one of the country’s most-segregated states was renewed in the General Assembly on Tuesday, when lawmakers heard public testimony on a variety of bills, including legislation that would allow housing authorities to purchase properties in adjacent towns.

Governor Gavin Newsom today announced more than $116 million in funding for seven Homekey projects across the state. The seven new projects will provide 387 housing units for people experiencing or at risk of experiencing homelessness.

A new alliance has formed to address Connecticut's affordable housing crisis, with a focus on its urban centers.

"Growing Together Connecticut" is a multi-year effort to pass housing laws and reforms that confront discriminatory policies, like redlining, that have led to disinvestment in cities.

One way to do that is through "fair-share" policies, that require cities to plan and zone for an adequate amount of affordable housing, based on need.

Housing Hope, a nonprofit and affordable housing developer, intends to build 52 apartments on a lot next to Edmonds Lutheran Church. Construction is to start this year.

“This is really executing on our plan to at least compete for and try to start a new project every year,” Housing Hope CEO Fred Safstrom said. “… It’s going to be a very attractive, nice project.”

From Clark County Today:

Two affordable housing projects – one nearing completion and one in the planning stages –recently received grants from the Washington State Department of Commerce. 

The city of Vancouver received $1,059,085 for Laurel Manor and $161,907 for The Meridian to cover sewer, water or stormwater improvements and/or waive system development charges. 

From the Mountain View Voice:

A proposal to develop a city parking lot at 444 Bryant St. into affordable housing took a big step forward when the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors recently agreed to loan $9.75 million in county funds toward the project.

The Supervisors voted unanimously to approve the loan, funded through the county's Measure A Affordable Housing bond, on Feb. 8.
