Congresswoman Maxine Waters (D-CA) issued a statement this week after her nomination by the House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee to serve as the chair of the House Committee on Financial Services. Though subject to the approval of the Democratic caucus, Waters will be the first woman and African American to lead the committee, which oversees public and affordable housing.
