Congressional Hearings Scheduled for Next Week to Cover VASH, Evictions

On January 14 at 10:00 a.m. ET, the House Committees on Financial Services and Veterans Affairs will each hold hearings on critical housing assistance issues. Entitled “On the Brink of Homelessness: How the Affordable Housing Crisis and the Gentrification of America Is Leaving Families Vulnerable,” the Financial Services hearing will include testimony from Evicted author & Princeton University Professor Matthew Desmond, University of Berkeley Professor Karen Chapple, National Housing Trust President Priya Jayachandran, and Tenant Advocate Jeffrey Williams. According to the hearing memo, additional witnesses may be added.  The hearing will be streamed live on the Committee website.

The Veterans Affairs Hearing, entitled “Making HUD-VASH Work for All Veteran Communities,” will focus on continuing programmatic challenges with the VASH program and feature witnesses from the National Alliance to End Homelessness and the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans, in addition to VA staff. The hearing will be streamed live on the Committee’s website
