SCSU Brings Its Classes Into High Schools (Elm City Communities/ Housing Authority of New Haven)

High-schoolers will now be able to take real college courses right inside their high schools.

That’s the result of a new partnership between New Haven Public Schools and Southern Connecticut University that was inked on Thursday morning inside Hillhouse High School’s Floyd Little Athletic Center.

Education Dive Magazine took an in-depth look at the innovative partnership between the Tacoma Housing Authority (THA) and Tacoma Public Schools (TPS). The program offers housing assistance to low-income families in order to enable children to stay in their same schools from year to year, thereby stabilizing students' attendance and improving their educational outcomes.

New Housing Legislation Introduced to Address Homelessness and Carbon Monoxide Detection

Two new housing bills impacting PHAs were recently introduced. The Ending Homelessness Act of 2019 (H.R. 1856), introduced by Representative Maxine Waters (D-CA), Chairwoman of the Housing Financial Services Committee, would appropriate $13.27 billion in mandatory emergency relief funding over five years to several federal housing programs and initiatives.

Minneapolis is launching its most aggressive effort yet to help homeless students succeed in school at a time when homelessness in Minnesota is at a record high.

The new Stable Homes, Stable Schools pilot program, believed to be the first of its kind in the nation, will provide rental assistance and intensive social services to the families of about 650 students in Minneapolis Public Schools over the next three years. Officials plan to house the first group of families next month.

Vancouver to participate in national conference on affordable housing, health (Vancouver Housing Authority)

Vancouver Mayor Anne McEnerny-Ogle and the city of Vancouver have been selected to participate in a national problem-solving session on affordable housing and health. “The Mayors’ Institute on Affordable Housing and Health: Advancing City-Level Strategies to Generate Sustainable Solutions” will take place April 2-4 in Detroit and is sponsored by the National League of Cities (NLC). 

David Williams to Present CMTO Findings, Opportunity Atlas at 2019 Housing Is Summit
