Amid housing crunch, Columbus Metropolitan Housing Authority to increase vouchers by 1,000

The Columbus Metropolitan Housing Authority plans to issue an additional 1,000 housing vouchers over the next year, while 24,000 remain on its wait list for federally subsidized housing.

The housing authority has already issued 12,500 housing vouchers, but the need is much more, as the waiting list shows and housing advocates push for more affordable housing in central Ohio.

Vancouver Housing Authority rent buy-down program to provide subsidy for landlords

The Vancouver Housing Authority is launching a rent buy-down program to make more rentals available to low-income households in Clark County.

Through the program announced this week, the VHA will provide a subsidy to participating landlords that reduces the tenant’s portion of rent, making the rent more affordable.

Tenants will receive assistance for a minimum of two years.

Marty Walsh announces launch of City of Boston Voucher Program (Boston Housing Authority)

Boston Mayor Martin Walsh on Monday announced the formal launch of the City of Boston Voucher Program, which will help hundreds of low-income city families with rental assistance.

The rental voucher program is funded by the city’s operating budget and administered by the Boston Housing Authority.

Walsh announced the voucher program in his State of the City address last year, and included $2.5 million in the fiscal year 2021 budget to create the program.

February 1, 2021 – Today, the Council of Large Public Housing Authorities, the Moving to Work Collaborative, the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials, and the Public Housing Authorities Directors Association sent a joint letter to both Senate and House leadership  calling on Congress to allocate $50 billion in emergency vouchers in the next COVID relief bill.
