Position Summary
The purpose of this position is to plan, organize, and implement INLIVIAN (or “Agency”) marketing initiatives and public relations activities. The incumbent is responsible for creating and distributing marketing materials, managing various communications-related projects, and ensuring consistency in all forms of INLIVIAN communications. This position assists in strategic communications planning and monitors current technological and media trends. The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Develops marketing communications campaigns and coordinates flow of information, disseminating communication according to plan/strategy; ensures that messages are supportive of and consistent with INLIVIAN marketing strategies.
Provides support to the Executive Vice President of Corporate Communications by creating and delivering marketing materials, ideas, and activities including brochures, sell sheets, and thought leadership materials.
Research current media coverage and industry trends; identifies, develops, and executes INLIVIAN’s communications strategy for key media contacts and customer references.
Assists in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with local media representatives (print, radio, and TV). Develops fresh story ideas and supports the broadcast of promotional events, significant achievements, and other positive activities and accomplishments; maintains records to document local media participation.
Promotes INLIVIAN products and services through public relations initiatives.
Have demonstrated ability in photography, videography, and video editing.
Creates and delivers press releases, media relations content, case studies, white papers, executive bios, corporate newsletter content, social media content, and speaking proposals.
Assists in coordinating Agency press events, determines newsworthiness, and provides appropriate guidance and follow-through with external contacts. Assists in planning, coordinating, and hosting events and resident advisory briefings.
Supervises INLIVIAN social media outreach; coordinates and delivers email campaigns; assists with the development, planning, and execution of social media strategies and tactics; coordinates with other INLIVIAN departments to determine events, updates, and other news items that should be shared on social media platforms. Delivers content via Linkedin, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, email, or direct mail.
Receives suggestions, comments, and complaints from target audience members relating to public relations campaigns; resolves problems or errors, or reports to the appropriate staff member.
Conducts research and drafts briefing materials and presentations to educate and inform the public about INLIVIAN initiatives and programs, as directed by the Executive Vice President of Corporate Communications; provides quality control and review of reports and other written materials as requested.
Assists with the creation of INLIVIAN graphics and art, as directed by the Executive Vice President of Corporate Communications.
Works with CORE to ensure that all INLIVIAN residents are informed of all community programs and events, by way of preparation and coordination of advertisements and notices.
In coordination with program personnel, meets on site with program participants, resident councils in communities, and others involved in Agency programs to discuss program needs, participate in decisions, and further Agency goals.
Attends community functions/events to recognize milestones in the lives of participants and encourage and support their attainment of goals.
Prepares newsletters for all conventional public housing authority family and senior sites, including researching and writing stories of interest to our residents, and taking photographs. This involves close coordination with internal divisions and external partners. Actively seeks article contributions from staff and residents.
Work with manager and business units to determine event budget and manage expenses to that budget.
Assists with administrative duties including scheduling, composing correspondence, mass mailing of materials, and maintaining records.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Marketing, Communications, Business, or Organizational Development with a minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of marketing or sales administrative experience. Must have experience with Adobe Creative Suite. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
Knowledge and Skills
Thorough knowledge of pertinent HUD regulations and Agency policies and procedures preferred.
Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite skills preferred.
Demonstrated photography, videography and video editing skills.
Demonstrated strong writing skills.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
Ability to address the public and present information in a clear, concise, and convincing manner.
Sound understanding of the principles of marketing as well as new technologies and how they can be applied to marketing.
Excellent copywriting skills and the ability to frame technical text for a broader audience.
Ability to manage a campaign budget.
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Ability to communicate on the level of the listener, recognizing when information has been misunderstood, and the ability to rectify any misunderstanding as needed when explaining Agency policies and procedures
Ability to deal effectively with situations that require tact and diplomacy, yet firmness.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with media representatives, other employees, clients, and the general public.
Thorough knowledge of general office procedures and practices, including business English, and arithmetic.
Skilled in operating computer equipment, applicable software packages, and general office machines.
Ability to prepare clear and concise narrative and statistical reports.
Supervision Controls
The employee receives instructions from the Executive Vice President of Corporate Communications. Courses of action, deadlines, and priorities are established by procedure, the supervisor, or the employee, depending on the assignment. Instructions to the employee may be general or specific in nature regarding deadlines, modification of priorities based on Agency needs, etc., but overall, the employee is free to establish priorities and practices within parameters defined by the supervisor. Unusual problems or issues are discussed with the supervisor to achieve the most advantageous resolution. The employee has no supervisory responsibilities.
Guidelines
The employee follows established regulations and guidelines issued by HUD and Agency policies and procedures and consults reference materials. For situations for which there are no guidelines, the employee may adapt existing guidelines, develop new guidelines, make a decision based on the experience, or seek guidance from the supervisor.
Complexity
The employee performs a wide variety of non-routine tasks. The employee identifies work that needs to be done in light of the evolving dynamic of public housing and the needs of the community, prioritizes, coordinates efforts, and performs the tasks. Frequently, the employee must make independent decisions based on experience regarding specific situations and may develop new solutions.
Difficulty may be experienced in the various issues that come into play in grant writing (e.g., varying writing style and/or word choice to meet needs/requirements, effective presentation of information and data, synthesizing complex or diverse information, etc.).
Scope and Effect
The employee's work affects the Agency and its clients through services provided in the public housing family communities, leading families to self-sufficiency and limiting turnover and evictions, as well as producing functioning resident councils in family communities. This results in a greater sense of self-reliance and improved self-esteem for participants, the ability to attract new residents as a result of additional services, and achievement of the Agency’s mission and goals.
Personal Contacts
The employee's contacts are primarily with coworkers, residents, community and real estate professionals, and social service agencies. The purpose of such contacts is to give or exchange information, resolve problems, motivate, influence, interrogate, justify, defend, negotiate, make decisions, provide quality services and assistance to residents and funding for Agency programs.
Difficulty may be experienced because of physical/environmental deterrents to privacy in terms of sensitive information being discussed.
Physical Requirements
Work is equally active and sedentary, and will involve some physical exertion, such as kneeling, crouching, or lifting to obtain files, records, and physical stresses involved from extended periods at a keyboard or workstation.
Must be able to sit or stand for up to eight hours at a time while performing work duties.
Must be able to bend, stoop, push, pull, lift, carry, climb, and reach in the performance of work-related duties related to special events.
Must be able to use fingers bilaterally and unilaterally to operate office equipment.
Must have vision and hearing corrected to be able to perform essential job functions.
Must be able to maintain punctuality and attendance as scheduled.
Must be able to perform essential job functions in an environment that will sometimes include increased levels of work-related stress.

Work Environment
Work involves the normal risks or discomfort associated with an office environment and is usually in an area that is adequately cooled, heated, lighted, and ventilated. From time to time, it may involve site visits to housing developments, dwellings, or facilities and include exposure to temperature and weather extremes.
Other Requirements
Must possess a valid State of North Carolina or South Carolina driver’s license and regularly participate in continuous improvement and education.
