Today, CLPHA Executive Director Sunia Zaterman was quoted in Affordable Housing Finance discussing how the shutdown threatens the stability of low-income households. Though HUD has prepared payments for housing vouchers and the public housing operating subsidy through February, Zaterman notes that the “existential threat” for voucher holders looms given the uncertainty of when the shutdown will end.

Congresswoman Maxine Waters (D-CA) issued a statement this week after her nomination by the House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee to serve as the chair of the House Committee on Financial Services. Though subject to the approval of the Democratic caucus, Waters will be the first woman and African American to lead the committee, which oversees public and affordable housing.

Notice PIH 208-01 (HA): Guidance Issued Regarding Small Area Fair Market Rent Rule

On January 17, 2018, HUD issued guidance “to help PHAs better understand their options” under the Final Rule but cautioned that HUD would likely “amend and extend this guidance once it has received and evaluated the complete results of the Small Area FMR Demonstration Evaluation.” Consistent with previous direction from HUD, the guidance states that full implementation and compliance is expected “no later than April 1, 2018.”
