STEM Opportunity: Free Drone Kits Available to HUD-Assisted Communities

Date Published:
March 7th, 2023

HUD-assisted communities interested in educating youth on drones can request free drone kits to provide high school-age youth with a STEM opportunity. Drone kits can be requested by filling out this form by March 17.

Through partnership efforts, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is funding the distribution of drone kits to provide hands-on technical learning experiences to high school-age youth. Each kit will contain the components to build a small drone, printed instructions on how to assemble it, and some other accessories including a transmitter, charging cable, batteries, and a first-person view headset.

There will also be information on how to access a suite of additional educational resources for the kit online, including an instructional build video, lesson plan, activities, and information about aviation-related career pathways. Educators who receive kits will have the opportunity to attend a free webinar about using the kit with students.
