CLPHA Board Member Karen DuBois-Walton Headlines NSLA Professional Summer Learning Community for Housing Leaders

Date Published:
August 31st, 2022

From the National Summer Learning Association

Whether you’ve joined in the past or have never been, we invite you to the NSLA Professional Summer Learning Community for Housing Leaders.

As you wrap up your summer programs and look ahead to planning for next year:

  • What have you learned and experienced in your programming and partnerships this summer that you will carry forward?
  • Have you established new partnerships and engaged more students and families this year?
  • Was there some new element to your programming that proved to be popular with your young people and effective in countering the summer learning slide?
  • What steps are you taking now to start the planning process for summer 2023?

Please join the next convening of our PLC to share the answers to these questions and more!

Date: Wed Sept 14

Time: 1:00-2:00 pm ET/10:00-11:00 am PT

Where: Zoom - please register here

Featured Speaker: Dr. Karen DuBois-Walton, President of Elm City Communities, the Housing Authority in New Haven, CT will join us to share details of her nationally recognized education programming, with a focus on the unique "teacher in residence" program where a unit is made available for a New Haven Public School teacher to live on site and support summer learning and all education programs. See attached for more info and learn about New Haven being named a finalist in the National Civic League's All America City Awards here.

Also, a reminder to join this year's "Summer Changes Everything" Conference at the Mayflower Hotel on October 24-26, if you are able. Please register and plan to join us for a very special pre-conference event for all of NSLA's professional summer learning communities on Monday, October 24.

Best of luck with the transition to the new school year and please plan to join our convening on Sept 14! Please reach out to Emily Samose esamose@gmail.com with any questions.
