From the Housing Authority of the City of Milwaukee's website:
Throughout 2020, the Wisconsin Women’s Business Initiative Corporation (WWBIC) demonstrated that it can adapt quickly and effectively as seen with its shift to a virtual format for the Make Your Money Talk (MYMT) financial literacy program. WWBIC provided financial capability education to 188 HACM residents in 2020, bringing the total number of graduates to 2,834 since the program’s inception in 2004.
On January 19, 2021, we gathered virtually to celebrate the achievements of the latest round of graduates. It was apparent from the ceremony that the graduates were proud as they held up their certificates to the camera with excitement and pride when their name was called to recognize their accomplishments.
The partnership between Housing Authority of the City of Milwaukee (HACM) and WWBIC helps individuals and families budget, save, and improve their overall money management skills. After residents graduate from the MYMT series, they are then eligible for a 4:1 matched savings account, funded by HACM. This matched savings account allows residents to save money towards a house, college, starting a business, debt repayment, and vehicle repair or purchase.
