From the District of Columbia Housing Authority's press release:

Some 350 District of Columbia Housing Authority employees spread out throughout the agency’s senior portfolio Friday, October 1, to plant flowers, paint, and work on other improvements that upgraded the curb appeal and brightened the communities’ properties.

“Taking care of this city’s most valuable residents, its seniors, and providing them with a better quality of life is a joy for DCHA’s employees and part of our mission. It is wonderful that nearly 350 staff members took time out of their busy work schedules to volunteer for this effort,” said Executive Director Brenda Donald. “We are so grateful to our community partners who graciously donated funds, supplies, and completed wish lists that our seniors compiled.”

Employees and resident council leadership donned red Day of Service t-shirts and got to work washing windows, planting trees and flowers, removing old signage, painting, laying mulch, and more across DCHA’s 13 senior properties.

“Today, we joined together to plant flowers for seniors to enjoy in locations where so many of our older District residents reside, share meals, and engage with their community,” said Laura Newland, director of the D.C. Department of Aging and Community Living. “Thanks to our partnership with the D.C. Housing Authority we are growing together and making sure all District seniors can Live Boldly!”
