Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority & Partners Working to Find Homes for Homeless Vets This Holiday Season

A new joint initiative is helping Cleveland veterans find housing in time for the holidays. Through the Home for the Holidays initiative, the Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority (CMHA), HUD, and the Cleveland VA are coordinating their outreach and resources to quickly find housing for veterans experiencing homelessness before the holiday season. The Cleveland VA held an event linking veterans to landlords and supportive services, and the event also offered the opportunity to sign up for HUD’s VASH program. The VA and CMHA also provided transportation for vets to view available apartments around town.

CMHA is also working hard to get veteran voucher holders into their new homes as soon as possible – “CMHA will expedite the contract process so we will fact tract the inspection and the contract inspection so that at the end of the day they'll have a home for the holidays," said CMHA Coordinator Heather Gaines.
