Job Description and Responsibilities

 

Building for Tomorrow (BFT), Akron Metropolitan Housing Authority’s (AMHA) non-profit subsidiary is looking for a full time Fund Development Senior Manager to join our team in an exciting time of organizational growth. The role reports directly to AMHA’s Director of Resident Services/Vice President of Building for Tomorrow and is responsible for philanthropic revenue to support the organization’s nonprofit mission of supporting services to residents of AMHA and other low-income individuals in the community that promote stability, education and economic independence as a means to strengthen the greater community.

 

The Fund Development Senior Manager will provide the necessary vision, leadership, and fundraising skills, which will enable Building for Tomorrow to achieve its annual fundraising goals. S/he will have substantial non-profit fundraising and management experience, a talent for building relationships, and a proven record of accomplishment in securing ongoing support from foundations, corporations, government, and individual donors.

 

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Establish the vision and strategic direction, and oversee all of the Development activities for the Agency.

Direct and oversee the implementation of all fundraising plans, programs and efforts including annual appeals, major gifts, foundation support, special events, etc.

Plan and supervise special events coordinated by AMHA staff or a contractual event specialist.

Builds an organizational culture of philanthropy that engages all AMHA/BFT stakeholders in opportunities to build donor relationships and share the impact of AMHA/BFT on people and community.

Develops strategies to secure ongoing significant sources of private/unrestricted funds to support the agency.

Executes innovative ways of raising increased funding from foundations, corporations, individuals, government agencies and other sources.

Ensures the continual development of prospect leads to support major gift emphasis.

Participates in key meetings and solicitations with potential donors identified by the President/CEO and Vice President/Secretary for ongoing operations then carries out personal solicitation calls.

Develop and manage strategic relationships with donors, the philanthropic community and key stakeholders and participate in community events to represent the Agency.

Prepares and assists in preparing for the quarterly board report working closely with the board treasurer.

Maintains good working relationship with all Board members.

Support the Board in fundraising activity including training, material development, relationship management, and ongoing donor cultivation efforts. 

Works with the Treasurer and Vice President/Secretary on the financial components of the long-range strategic plan, ensuring financial strength with growth.

Ensure implementation of strategic plans and related tactical plans and activities for all development efforts, including fundraising and grants; donor relations; donor record management and reporting; events; media and communications; branding; etc.

Develop budget projections and recommend annual fundraising goals to President/CEO and the Board.

 

Job Qualifications:

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business, Sales, Marketing, Communications, or related field

7+ years’ experience in Non-Profit fundraising, including campaigns, major gift programs, grant writing and reporting and event management

Supervisory experience

Strong interpersonal skills, especially negotiation, influencing, relationship building, and collaboration

Ability to be authentic and approachable; and can garner trust among peers, staff, donors, Board, etc.

Proficient in donor tracking via fund development software (Little Green Light)

Ability to build relationships with diverse individuals and groups

Strong Computer skills with Microsoft Office Suite and experience navigating within difference foundation grant submission portals.

Understand how to recognize donors through multiple platforms

Ability to remain focused, results oriented and decisive

Strategic thinking skills with good judgment

Excellent business writing skills

Knowledge of funding priorities and collaborative efforts in the community and demonstrated ability to work with foundations and individual donors and businesses to align AMHA/BFT efforts with their priorities.

Knowledge of the needs and attitudes of the physically, socially, and economically disadvantaged, including the youth and elderly population and ability to communicate with individuals of varying social, educational, and economic backgrounds
