Company Information: The COVID-19 pandemic has challenged Dothan Housing (DH) to create a different platform for sustainability by “thinking outside of the box” by becoming a housing authority of the future. This was done through its digital transformation initiative. Whereas, DH has answered the challenge of evolution through transformational leadership and acknowledging the paradigm shift of public housing authorities (PHAs) of doing more with less, moving from paper to the cloud, and streamlining its operations through technology by embracing an online platform. DH has also implemented a modern-day leadership approach focused on creating a high-value organizational culture built on trust, getting the right people on the team, and coaching that team to greatness to meet key performance indicators (KPIs) that will ultimately increase its overall productivity. DH offers remote, flexible, and hybrid work environment so that its employees can work from locations other than the office. DH’s new business model has enhanced its efforts to attract, recruit, and retain an articulate, talented, and diverse workforce of the best and the brightest in the affordable housing industry.

Position Summary: As a Moving to Work (MTW) Expansion Agency under the Landlord Incentives Cohort #3, this position reports to the Chief Operating Officer (COO). The Director of Marketing & Fundraising is integral to Dothan Housing’s (DH’s) mid-management team. The position is responsible for developing and implementing the DH and its instrumentalities’ fundraising, marketing, public relations, intergovernmental affairs, and communications strategies. The Director of Marketing & Fundraising also leverages established relationships with donors, volunteers, and community stakeholders to cultivate new sources of support by serving as an ambassador for DH and instrumentalities. The position assists with making presentations to groups to change the narrative and perception of affordable housing in the Wiregrass Metro Area (WMA), across the region, the state of Alabama, and nationally.

The Director of Marketing & Fundraising is responsible for raising the visibility and brand of DH and its instrumentalities, Our Community, Inc. (OCI), Building Opportunities toward Self-Sufficiency, Inc. (BOSS), Dothan Management Group (DMG), and Dothan Modernization Services (DMS). The position is also responsible for creating and providing leadership for comprehensive and cost-effective fundraising programs, encompassing annual giving, major gifts, special events, fundraisers, and other initiatives to attract maximum support from volunteers, donors from individuals, businesses, foundations, and other corporate sponsors.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Master's degree from a four-year college or university in marketing, nonprofit management, public or business administration, public relations, fundraising, journalism, broadcasting, communications, or related fields required with a least three (3) years of leadership and supervision in communications, public relations, fundraising, event planning, and marketing.

  • Associate's degree from a four-year college or university in marketing, nonprofit management, public or business administration, public relations, fundraising, journalism, broadcasting, communications, or related fields required with a least seven (7) years of leadership and supervision in communications, public relations, fundraising, event planning, and marketing.
  • A combination of education and experience may be considered.
