­LA Family Housing has been on an incredible growth trajectory in all aspects of the organization, from its cutting-edge and innovative programs and services to the development of new properties. The impact has been seen across the City and County of Los Angeles as LA Family Housing moved 88% more people into permanent housing over the past four years. Additionally, the organization is in the process of developing 12 new properties as permanent affordable housing buildings. At this exciting time in LA Family Housing’s evolution, the organization seeks mission-driven, experienced, and innovative candidates for this newly created the executive role of Chief Administrative Officer (CAO).


The Chief Administrative Officer is responsible for identifying, evaluating, and overseeing initiatives to improve operational and administrative support for LA Family Housing. The CAO reports to the President & CEO and is specifically responsible for providing strategic direction and leadership to LAFH’s administrative units that manage operations, facilities, asset management, human resources, and information technology.


The CAO will leverage their history of collaborative leadership and managing large complex teams to improve organizational excellence and establish a stronger sense of unity and esprit-de-corps. The successful candidate will have a commitment to empowering staff at all levels to implement existing policies and procedures and fulfill LA Family Housing’s mission. The CAO will continue to develop a strong and inclusive workplace environment for all and will ideally have direct service experience working with vulnerable populations. The position will oversee five direct reports, including: Vice President, Facilities & Assets; Senior Director, Data & Compliance; Director, Information Technology; Vice President, Human Resources; and an Executive Assistant.



LA Family Housing (LAFH) is a leader in homeless services and affordable housing development in Los Angeles and is committed to ending homelessness in people’s lives. We are invested in innovative solutions to ensure our participation and long-term stability, and believe that everyone deserves the dignity of a home. Each year LA Family Housing employs evidence-based best practices to help nearly 11,000 people transition out of homelessness and poverty. Additionally, our community-based approach has allowed the organization to influence how homelessness is addressed in Los Angeles and nationwide.


Over the past four years, LA Family Housing has grown exponentially – serving 71% more people on their path home. Our success is based on a model of an individualized approach that combines housing options with support services to meet each program participant’s unique needs. This model connects participants to permanent housing and helps them achieve long-term housing stability through a full continuum of services. The growing portfolio of 26+ properties extends access for vulnerable groups to permanent homes and our services help them overcome barriers to overall well-being. LAFH takes tremendous pride in the emergence of our staff as national leaders in innovation, best practices, and policy within housing production and homeless services. From presenting at national conferences to facilitating service collaboration among providers in other regions, we equip our industry to effectively respond to homelessness and ultimately, move more people home, together. 



Candidates must have broad subject matter understanding of all functional areas under the Chief Administrative Officer’s responsibility as well as a bachelor’s degree (masters preferred) and ten years of related experience leading complex, multi-site operations and human capital. Additionally, the ideal candidate will have the following professional competencies and personal qualities and characteristics:
