HUD Concludes PHAS Listening Sessions

On October 3 and 4, HUD held its last regional Public Housing Assessment System (PHAS) listening session in Washington, D.C. The two-day session was divided into four segments: a PHAS overview, a discussion of various topics related to PHAS (e.g., resident assessments and the capital fund), a review of proposed financial indicators, and a review of proposed physical indicators.

Briefing on HUD Rental Subsidy Improper Payments Study

On October 15, HUD held a briefing on Quality Control for Rental Subsidy Determinations, at which the Final Report for the FY2011 Study was presented. The briefing opened with introductory remarks about the importance of the decade-long series of quality control studies and the progress that HUD has made towards minimizing improper payments.

Further RAD Assistance and Updates

There are two technical assistance resources that CLPHA members may find useful if they are in the process of submitting a RAD application or are considering participation. The first is HUD’s searchable database of frequently asked questions about RAD (Q & A Database), which also allows users to submit their own questions. HUD generally responds within 24 hours, and the database already contains answers on topics such as financing plans and Choice Mobility requirements.

Free Training Available Through HUD's Green Academy

Registration is now open for HUD's Green Academy, which will offer free green building training to HUD grantees and other affordable housing organizations. The courses will provide information on how to: make your affordable housing portfolio sustainable; reduce operating expenses while preserving water and energy; finance green and energy efficient improvements; and, achieve healthier, safer and more efficient buildings.
