On September 14, the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) submitted a report to Congress on the projected impact of sequestration on federal programs, including housing programs.  The Administration was required to submit the report as part of the Sequestration Transparency Act of 2012.  View the HUD portion of the report.

Top Ten Take-Aways from the Chicago RAD Workshop Hosted by CLPHA, Enterprise, and NEF

On September 6-7, approximately 100 attendees representing nearly 40 housing authorities from around the country and 25 private developers and finance professionals attended the workshop "Making a RAD Deal Work" in Chicago.  Hosted by CLPHA, Enterprise, and NEF, the event featured two days of presentations from and dialogue with members of the financial industry interested in helping housing authorities put together RAD deals.

CLPHA members can now register online for the Fall Meeting, which will be held November 14-16 in Washington, DC at the Capital Hilton.  CLPHA thanks the District of Columbia Housing Authority for hosting this meeting, at which members will hear about innovations in the nation’s capital and discuss the impact of election results.

PIH Publishes Notice Detailing Instructions for Emergency Safety and Security Funding

On September 7, PIH published PIH-2012-38, guidance to housing authorities seeking emergency capital needs funding for safety and security measures utilizing FY12 funds.  The Department has allocated $3 million of the $20 million emergency capital needs set-aside provided by Congress within the Capital Fund appropriation specifically for emergency safety and security funding to address crime and drug-related activity.

Notice for Comment Regarding Tenant Protection Vouchers for Certain At-Risk Households

Although a previous implementation notice had been released in March, on September 10, the Federal Register announced a Notice for Comment regarding the implementation of a FY2012 appropriations provision designating up to $10 million for tenant protection assistance for certain at-risk households in low-vacancy areas.

Join the PHA Sustainability Network call with the Denver Housing Authority (DHA) and Mithun on Friday, September 28 at 9am PST/12 noon EST.  The DHA is revising its sustainability plan to incorporate healthy design strategies into a 17 acre redevelopment. They will be sharing their successes and lessons learned thus far.
