SALARY RANGE 47: $10,644 - $12,937/month

The Housing Authority of the City of Alameda (AHA) is proud of its mission and accomplishments.  In partnership with the entire community, the Housing Authority advocates and provides quality, affordable safe housing, encourages self-sufficiency, and strengthens community inclusiveness and diversity in housing. Once a unit of the City of Alameda, the AHA is now an independent organization but remains highly linked to the City of Alameda and serves as both the housing authority and the City’s housing department, including managing CDBG, HOME, and BMR programs on behalf of the City.




AHA is looking for an exceptional development professional to oversee and direct the Agency’s Housing and Community Development Department, including acquisition, rehabilitation, and new construction of AHA’s housing units. The position offers a unique opportunity to be in on the ground floor of a complete site and structure development project on former Navy property, along with multiple rehabilitation and new development projects throughout the City of Alameda, all geared towards the goals of expanding the supply of affordable housing and preserving the existing affordable units already in place in Alameda.

Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

  • Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in architecture, planning, construction management, urban planning, engineering, business or public administration, or a related field, and
  • Seven (7) years of administrative or management experience in the planning, development, construction, acquisition, rehabilitation, and/or management of a variety of housing development projects and/or programs, including four (4) years of supervisory experience
  • Possession of an advanced degree and/or specialized qualifications such as registered architect, licensed general contractor or licensed real estate professional is desirable

·         Experience with affordable housing including LIHTC development experience is strongly preferred. Applicants with such experience should include a project development list in their cover letter.



The Housing Authority provides an outstanding benefits package, including:

·         Membership in CalPERS defined benefit retirement program. Important: AHA does not participate in Social Security.

·         A variety of health insurance plans to choose from, with some plans fully paid for (regardless of the number of dependents) by employer contributions

·         3 weeks of vacation to start increasing to 4 weeks at one year of employment, 10 holidays and 3.5 floating holidays per year plus paid sick leave

·         AHA exempt staff work a flex schedule of 9 8-hour days with every other Friday scheduled off; exempt employees are measured on outcomes and are expected to complete their irrespective of the flex schedule
